do you wish you hadn't gotten rid of? For me, it is a tie between two. My '91 Alfa Romeo 164S, and my '02 Land Rover Discovery. The Alfa at least I never see, as it's half a country away...the Disco was still in my town, but the new owner went to college with her...an hour away. Still see it. Blargh.

How could you possibly take the emotional strain of selling an Alfa?

I don't miss my Jetta or Fivehundred so much that I regret getting rid of them. Do I miss them? Yes. I have awesome memories with both cars.

Purely from an automobile standpoint, I'd be saddest to see my current car go, I think, the '10 SHO. But I intend to keep it for years to come, so no need to worry about that just yet.

I don't really regret getting rid of any of them. My 99 legacy wagon was about the only one, which I crashed instead of actually getting rid of. The thing was riddled with rust though so I can't say it would be in good condition if I still had it. Now that I have a WRX I really want a WRX swapped 99 legacy wagon

I had literally no other option at the time, sadly. She wasn't running, and we were forced to move by my former father-in-law having a psychotic episode, he ran us out, we had to throw everything we owned in my truck and leave Pennsylvania for my home in Texas, and I didn't have 200 bucks to rent a tow dolly from Uhaul...so she got sold to my mechanic for 500 bucks. I still want to go back and get her...My mother-in-law still lives there alone, and she occasionally sees the mechanic driving it around.

Where were you in PA, because I live in Pittsburgh and if the Alfa is nearby and for sale, I might just have to bite. If I can get the money...

Over near NJ, in Brodheadsville. The mechanic is named Orlando. No clue if he wants to sell it or keep it tho. Note, I paid 1500 for the car, put about 1200 into it before having to bail, and of course he gave me 500, unknown what he's spent on it since then, but it does have brand new floorpans and cooling system, cause I did that.

Bit too far away to justify going after it, especially since we don't if it's for sale. Oh well. It was worth a shot.

I wanted safari stripes...but I also wanted Jurassic Park colors...so...neon green fading down to yellow, with red outline, because I couldn't afford to wrap the whole thing to look like this:

Kinja'd!!!

And you have no idea how many times I got asked about the Monster Energy stripes on my car. Or the fact that the pattern they used for them has an end that looks vaguely like a dick.

1967 Straight-six model Barracuda,Too nice for a teenager, too clunky for a collector. Should have just found some place to store it. Sportier editions going for $35K. But that's apples to oranges.

Not mine - mine was far more beat up, but I had a 1988 Mitsubishi Starion. I loved that thing, but after the third time I blew the motor, and after acquiring a much more practical and easier to build/tune 1990 Eclipse GSX, I knew its time had come. I couldn't have kept it much longer anyway as I moved to a city with emissions testing shortly after, and there was no way I could get that car to pass...

Yeah, I had a choice between the 'cuda and a Dodge Aspen. Of course I took the 'cuda. But wasn't thinking long-term back then, should have realized we had.. well, the engine was chained on and the rear shocks went in the trunk, so it wasn't cherry.

Somebody else at school bought it, I saw it once in the rear view mirror, wallowing into the lane. A about a year of shop-work would have been about right.

Ever see a gold one with a bunged lh front fender upper corner, that's mine. Couldn't quite navigate the acreage. I can still smell that thing right now recalling the story.

Again, that one wasn't mine. Mine I inherited from my sister after she hit something and blew the motor. But imagine that one with fading cheap 80s Mitsubishi paint, the bottom part of the front spoiler destroyed, and a decent sized dent on the rear passenger side, and you get the idea.

Still, it was a fun car. I got it for free then dumped more money than I should have. Honestly, given the crap fuel injection system, I should have removed the turbos and built a high compression naturally aspirated motor for it. The G54B motor was rock solid - boosting a throttle body fuel injection system with a primitive ECU was just a recipe for disaster.

And, with that, you have me searching craigslist... Damn it. :)

As far as I know, only two of the 11 or so cars I've owned aren't on the road after I had them, one was my '00 Silverado, which I crashed horribly, Story HERE ,and our '96 Maxima, which blew the head after I'd owned it for a week, was sold to a mechanic who stripped her for parts.

You should have just put the Eclipse engine in the Starion!

Kinja'd!!! JasonStern911 > GhostZ

Kinja'd!!!0

I wish, but I lack the skills to pull that off. At the time, one guy did that swap. But he had to use the weaker transmission out of a D50 pickup in order to get the FWD longitudinal motor to work in the RWD lateral Starion layout, and without fabbing custom parts, a lot of the pieces - motor mounts, transmission mounts, and pieces I am probably forgetting (oil pan?) were fairly uncommon. Then, on top of that, you have the wiring as the Starion ECU was primitive compared to the Eclipse's...

The sad thing is, in Japan, the Starion came factory equipped with a 4G63. Not quite the same one as in the Eclipse - single cam, either no or a lesser turbo, etc. But at the time, the G54B had more torque, which made it seem like a better fit for America, with their 5.0 Mustangs and 350 Chevys. It's a shame, because had the 4G63 ship to the U.S. - turbocharged or not - the Starion likely would have the same swap and build-up credentials the S13 240SX has...

I agree. The Starion was DOA for the US, like so many of those imports were.

At least you got the AWD Eclipse instead of the FWD one, that would have been a step back in my mind.

I don't have a picture of it anymore, but I wish I had never let my Toyota Pickup go.

It was a 1987 SR-5 2wd. Came with the 22R-TE. All options except A/C and, by all options, I mean fucking comfy ass captains chairs, center console, AM/FM/tape/CD radio, power goddamned everything , sunroof, metallic paint (that oxidized like mad), 15'' aluminum Alcoa wheels and an LSD. The truck was MADNESS

Sadly it got totalled.

It was the best little pickup - taught me how to drive a stick, taught me about turbo lag and wastegate operation, taught me about regular lifter maintenance, and taught me about asshole rabbits sleeping on the valve cover and chewing through all my vacuum lines.

Many good memories were had in that pickup. If I ever come across another turbo'd 2wd again (super rare; the 22R-TE was primarily in 4x4 units) I will probably buy the thing in a heartbeat.
